Product overview
Mouse Betacellulin ELISA Kit (BTC) (ab255722) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of Betacellulin (BTC) protein in cell culture media, cell culture supernatant, cit plasma, edta plasma, hep plasma, and serum. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Mouse Betacellulin (BTC) with 1.6 pg/ml sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
- Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
- High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
- Fully validated in biological samples
- 96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells stripsA 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (ab203359) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.

Notes
Betacellulin (BTC) is an EGF growth factor family member that binds to EGF Receptor family members. BTC is expressed as a 177 amino acid precursor form that is a single-pass transmembrane protein (this form is called pro-betacellulin). Subsequent cleavage produces the soluble and secreted 79 amino acid betacellulin fragment from the extracellular portion of pro-betacellulin. This assay reacts with the soluble betacellulin protein, reactivity with pro-betacellulin was not determined.

-
Function
Potent mitogen for retinal pigment epithelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells. The effects of betacellulin are probably mediated by the EGF receptor and other related receptors. -
Tissue specificity
Synthesized in several tissues and tumor cells. Predominantly expressed in pancreas and small intestine. -
Sequence similarities
Contains 1 EGF-like domain. -
Cellular localization
Cell membrane and Secreted > extracellular space. - Information by UniProt

SimpleStep ELISA technology allows the formation of the antibody-antigen complex in one single step, reducing assay time to 90 minutes. Add samples or standards and antibody mix to wells all at once, incubate, wash, and add your final substrate. See protocol for a detailed step-by-step guide.

The Betacellulin standard curve was prepared as described in Section 10. Raw data values are shown in the table. Background-subtracted data values (mean +/- SD) are graphed.
-
The concentrations of Betacellulin were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the Betacellulin standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: kidney supernatant 50%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean Betacellulin concentration was determined to be 349 pg/mL in kidney tissue culture supernatant.

The concentrations of Betacellulin were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the Betacellulin standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: serum 12.5%, plasma (citrate) 25%, plasma (EDTA) 25%, and plasma (heparin) 25%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2).
