Biological description
Broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis by inactivating transpeptidases on the inner surface of the bacterial cell membrane. Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Widely used as a selective agent in cell culture.
