Background
The Nb-2 rat lymphoma line was derived from a transplant of a lymphoma that developed in the thymus/lymph node of a male noble (Nb) strain rat following prolonged oestrogen treatment. The cells are of the pre-T cell origin and their proliferation is dependent on mammalian lactogens, such as prolactin. Cells have a modified prolactin receptor and are used for in vitro bioassay of lactogenic hormones, studies of the mechanisms of lactogen induced mitogenesis, studies into the action of vinca alkaloids and studies of tumour progression.
