Product overview
Abcam's gp130 MouseELISA Kit (ab193724) is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of mouse gp130 in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants.
This assay employs an antibody specific for gp130 coated onto a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and the immobilized antibody captures gp130 present in the sample. The wells are washed and a biotinylated anti-Mouse gp130 antibody is added. After washing away any unbound biotinylated antibody, an HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. After incubation, the wells are again washed, followed by the addition of a TMB substrate solution to the wells. Color will develop in proportion to the amount of gp130 bound in each well. Addition of the Stop Solution will change the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Relevance
CD130 is a signal transducer shared by many cytokines, including interleukin 6 (IL6), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), and oncostatin M (OSM). This protein functions as a part of the cytokine receptor complex. The activation of this protein is dependent upon the binding of cytokines to their receptors. vIL6, a protein related to IL6 and encoded by the Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus, can bypass the interleukin 6 receptor (IL6R) and directly activate this protein. Knockout studies in mice suggested a critical role of the gene encoding this protein in regulating myocyte apoptosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. -
