Product overview
Human BD-3 ELISA kit (ab272471) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of Human BD-3 protein in serum and plasma. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Human BD-3 with 14.3 pg/mL sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
-Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
-High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
-Fully validated in biological samples
-96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells strips
A 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (ab203359) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.

Notes
Defensins are cysteine rich cationic peptides known to exhibit strong antimicrobial and immune signaling activities. BD-3, encoded by the DEFB103A gene, is expressed in many epithelial cells and induced by cytokines or microbial stimuli. Studies shows that BD-3 may play an important role in the innate epithelial defense and wound healing.

Function
Exhibits antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria S.aureus and S.pyogenes, Gram-negative bacteria P.aeruginosa and E.coli and the yeast C.albicans. Kills multiresistant S.aureus and vancomycin-resistent E.faecium. No significant hemolytic activity was observed. -
Tissue specificity
Highly expressed in skin and tonsils, and to a lesser extent in trachea, uterus, kidney, thymus, adenoid, pharynx and tongue. Low expression in salivary gland, bone marrow, colon, stomach, polyp and larynx. No expression in small intestine. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the beta-defensin family. -

SimpleStep ELISA technology allows the formation of the antibody-antigen complex in one single step, reducing assay time to 90 minutes. Add samples or standards and antibody mix to wells all at once, incubate, wash, and add your final substrate. See protocol for a detailed step-by-step guide.
-
The BD-3 standard curve was prepared as described in Section 10. Raw data values are shown in the table. Background-subtracted data values (mean +/- SD) are graphed.
-
The concentration of BD-3 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the BD-3 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: serum 12.5% and plasma (citrate) 12.5%. The interpolated values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2).
