Cell adhesion molecule that binds to CD6. Involved in neurite extension by neurons via heterophilic and homophilic interactions. May play a role in the binding of T- and B-cells to activated leukocytes, as well as in interactions between cells of the nervous system. -
Tissue specificity
Spleen, placenta, liver, and weakly in liver. Expressed by activated T-cells, B-cells, monocytes and thymic epithelial cells. Expressed by neurons in the brain. Restricted expression in tumor cell lines. Preferentially expressed in highly metastasizing melanoma cell lines. -

Immunohistochemistry (Formalin/PFA-fixed paraffin-embedded sections) - Anti-CD166 antibody (ab78649)IHC image of ab78649 staining in human normal skin FFPE section, performed on a BondTM system using the standard protocol F. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH6, epitope retrieval solution 1) for 20 mins. The section was then incubated with ab78649, 1µg/ml for 15 mins at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX
