Biological description
Positively charged lipophilic fluorophore with red-orange fluorescence. Rapidly accumulates in the mitochondria due to the relative negative charge of active mitochondria with respect to the cytosol. Can be used to monitor spontaneous transient depolarizations of mitochondria (Δψm).
