Mitochondrial Superoxide Indicator Assay Kit (Red)
  • Detection method

    Fluorescent
  • Sample type

    Adherent cells
  • Assay type

    Cell-based
  • Product overview

ab228567 Mitochondrial Superoxide Indicator (Red) Assay Kit utilizes a sensitive detection reagent for mitochondrial superoxide that rapidly partitions to the mitochondria where it is oxidized by superoxide and exhibits red fluorescence. The reagent is resistant to oxidation by other ROS systems and is selective only for superoxide.

This kit may be useful for the investigation of agents that modulate oxidative stress found in various disease states.

The protocol provides enough reagents to analyze 10 x 96 wells (960 samples) using the methods described.

  • Notes

Superoxide occurs in mitochondria as a result of incompletely reduced oxygen being produced during oxidative phosphorylation and going on to interact with molecular oxygen and forming superoxide. Increases in cellular superoxide production have been linked to cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and atherosclerosis and in neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
