Biological description
Aminoglycoside antibiotic agent. Irreversibly binds bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit. Causes misreading of t-RNA. Inhibits protein synthesis. Active against aerobic, Gram-negative bacteria and some mycobacteria in vivo. Often used to select for bacteria which have been successfully transformed with a plasmid conferring kanamycin resistance. -
