Product overview
Abcam’s Tranferrin Human in vitro ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of Transferrin in urine, milk saliva, CSF and cell culture supernatants.
A Tranferrin specific antibody has been precoated onto 96-well plates and blocked. Standards or test samples are added to the wells and subsequently a Tranferrin specific biotinylated detection antibody is added and then followed by washing with wash buffer. Streptavidin-Peroxidase Conjugate is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. TMB is then used to visualize Streptavidin-Peroxidase enzymatic reaction. TMB is catalyzed by Streptavidin-Peroxidase to produce a blue color product that changes into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Tranferrin captured in plate.

Function
Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe(3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. It is responsible for the transport of iron from sites of absorption and heme degradation to those of storage and utilization. Serum transferrin may also have a further role in stimulating cell proliferation. -
Tissue specificity
Expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma. -
Involvement in disease
Defects in TF are the cause of atransferrinemia (ATRAF) [MIM:209300]. Atransferrinemia is rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by iron overload and hypochromic anemia. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the transferrin family.
Contains 2 transferrin-like domains. -
Cellular localization
Secreted. - Information by UniProt
