Product overview
Human FABP5 ELISA kit (ab272474) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of Human FABP5 protein in serum, plasma, urine, saliva and tissue extract. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Human FABP5 with 0.14 ng/mL sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
-Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
-High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
-Fully validated in biological samples
-96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells strips
A 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (ab203359) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.

Notes
Fatty acid-binding protein 5 (FABP5), also known as E-FABP for Epidermal-type fatty acid-binding protein, is a member of the fatty acid binding proteins and is encoded by the FABP5 gene. FABP5 is an a 134- amino acid containing protein that can be found either as a monomer or a homodimer. FABP5 mainly serves as an intracellular carrier for long-chain fatty acids and related lipids, which regulates metabolism. FABP5 can also transport specific fatty acids, such as retinoic acid and endocannabinoid, from the cytosol to the nucleus, where they activate nuclear receptors.

Research areas
-
Function
High specificity for fatty acids. Highest affinity for C18 chain length. Decreasing the chain length or introducing double bonds reduces the affinity. May be involved in keratinocyte differentiation. -
Tissue specificity
Keratinocytes; highly expressed in psoriatic skin. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family. -
Domain
Forms a beta-barrel structure that accommodates the hydrophobic ligand in its interior. -
Cellular localization
Cytoplasm. - Information by UniProt

SimpleStep ELISA technology allows the formation of the antibody-antigen complex in one single step, reducing assay time to 90 minutes. Add samples or standards and antibody mix to wells all at once, incubate, wash, and add your final substrate. See protocol for a detailed step-by-step guide.

The FABP5 standard curve was prepared as described in Section 10. Raw data values are shown in the table. Background-subtracted data values (mean +/- SD) are graphed.
-
The concentrations of FABP5 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the target standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: saliva 1.5%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean target concentration was determined to be 766 ng/mL in saliva.
-
The concentrations of FABP5 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the target standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: urine 50%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean target concentration was determined to be 8.2 ng/mL in urine.
-
Interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean FABP5 concentration was determined to be 3.4 ng/mL with a range of 0.8 – 11.2 ng/mL.
