Product overview
Canine Cystatin C ELISA Kit (ab273173) is an in-vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Canine Cystatin C in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants.
This assay employs an antibody specific for Canine Cystatin C coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Canine Cystatin C present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and biotinylated anti-Canine Cystatin C antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Canine Cystatin C bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Function
As an inhibitor of cysteine proteinases, this protein is thought to serve an important physiological role as a local regulator of this enzyme activity. -
Tissue specificity
Expressed in submandibular and sublingual saliva but not in parotid saliva (at protein level). Expressed in various body fluids, such as the cerebrospinal fluid and plasma. Expressed in highest levels in the epididymis, vas deferens, brain, thymus, and ovary and the lowest in the submandibular gland. -
Involvement in disease
Amyloidosis 6
Macular degeneration, age-related, 11 -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the cystatin family. -
Post-translational
modificationsThe Thr-25 variant is O-glycosylated with a core 1 or possibly core 8 glycan. The signal peptide of the O-glycosylated Thr-25 variant is cleaved between Ala-20 and Val-21. -
