Function
High-affinity, low capacity permease involved in the transport of the cationic amino acids (arginine, lysine and ornithine) in non-hepatic tissues. May also function as an ecotropic retroviral leukemia receptor. -
Tissue specificity
Ubiquitous. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the amino acid-polyamine-organocation (APC) superfamily. Cationic amino acid transporter (CAT) (TC 2.A.3.3) family. -
Cellular localization

All lanes : Anti-CAT1 antibody (ab37588) at 1 µg/ml
Lane 1 : Jurkat (human T cell leukemia cell line from peripheral blood) whole cell lysate
Lane 2 : MCF7 (human breast adenocarcinoma cell line) whole cell lysate
Lane 3 : HepG2 (human liver hepatocellular carcinoma cell line) whole cell lysate
Lysates/proteins at 20 µg per lane.
Secondary
All lanes : Goat polyclonal to Rabbit IgG - H&L - Pre-Adsorbed (HRP) at 1/50000 dilution
Developed using the ECL technique.
Performed under reducing conditions.
Predicted band size: 68 kDa
Observed band size: 68 kDa
Additional bands at: 120 kDa (possible non-specific binding)
Exposure time: 4 minutesThis blot was produced using a 4-12% Bis-tris gel under the MOPS buffer system. The gel was run at 200V for 50 minutes before being transferred onto a Nitrocellulose membrane at 30V for 70 minutes. The membrane was then blocked for an hour using 3% Milk before being incubated with ab37588 overnight at 4°C. Antibody binding was detected using an anti-rabbit antibody conjugated to HRP, and visualised using ECL development solution ab133406.
