Biological description
Fat-soluble dye often used for staining triglycerides, lipids and lipoproteins present in cells and tissues. This red β-naphthol diazo dye has the same basic structure as Sudan III with two added methyl groups increasing the deepness and intensity of the stain. Sudan dyes are a group of lipid soluble solvent dyes often called lysochromes. With the use of certain solvents, may also be used to stain some protein bound lipids in paraffin sections.
