This kit contains the all of the reagents including the primary substrate of the firefly luciferase light producing system, D-luciferin, as well as the lysis and luciferase enzyme assay buffers.

Firefly luciferase (EC 1.13.12.7) is the enzyme used in chemiluminescent reactions, producing light by the oxidation of D-luciferin with oxygen and adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Luciferase is used in numerous biochemical assays, where the gene is either cloned into cells or tissues as a reporter or marker gene. The Live Cell Luciferase Assay Kit kit will perform 1000 luciferase assays using a microtiterplate format (100 µL reaction volume, 0.1 mM final reaction concentration). The synthetic beetle luciferin substrate contained in the kit is also available separately as a lyophilized powder, D-Luciferin.
