Product overview
Human Catalase ELISA kit (ab277396) is an in-vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human Catalase in serum, plasma (collect plasma using EDTA as an anticoagulant. Heparin and Citrate are not recommended as anticoagulants for use in this assay) and cell culture supernatants.
This assay employs an antibody specific for Human Catalase coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Human Catalase present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and biotinylated anti-Human Catalase antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human Catalase bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.
Note: Collect plasma using EDTA as an anticoagulant. Heparin and Citrate are not recommended as anticoagulants for use in this assay.

Function
Occurs in almost all aerobically respiring organisms and serves to protect cells from the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide. Promotes growth of cells including T-cells, B-cells, myeloid leukemia cells, melanoma cells, mastocytoma cells and normal and transformed fibroblast cells. -
Involvement in disease
Defects in CAT are the cause of acatalasia (ACATLAS) [MIM:115500]; also known as acatalasemia. This disease is characterized by absence of catalase activity in red cells and is often associated with ulcerating oral lesions. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the catalase family. -
Post-translational
