Product overview
Human Apolipoprotein B ELISA Kit (ab277393) is an in-vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human Apolipoprotein B in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants.
This assay employs an antibody specific for Human Apolipoprotein B coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Human Apolipoprotein B present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and biotinylated anti-Human Apolipoprotein B antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human Apolipoprotein B bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Function
Apolipoprotein B is a major protein constituent of chylomicrons (apo B-48), LDL (apo B-100) and VLDL (apo B-100). Apo B-100 functions as a recognition signal for the cellular binding and internalization of LDL particles by the apoB/E receptor. -
Involvement in disease
Hypobetalipoproteinemia, familial, 1
Familial ligand-defective apolipoprotein B-100
Defects in APOB associated with defects in other genes (polygenic) can contribute to hypocholesterolemia. -
Sequence similarities
Contains 1 vitellogenin domain. -
Post-translational
modificationsPalmitoylated; structural requirement for proper assembly of the hydrophobic core of the lipoprotein particle. -
