Tissue specificity
Expressed in kidney and retina. Also at low levels in brain, testis and muscle. Within the retina, expressed in the inner segment of photoreceptors, outer and inner nuclear layers and the ganglion cell layer. -
Involvement in disease
Defects in NYX are the cause of congenital stationary night blindness type 1A (CSNB1A) [MIM:310500]; also called X-linked congenital stationary night blindness (XLCSNB). Congenital stationary night blindness is a non-progressive retinal disorder characterized by impaired night vision. CSNB1A is characterized by impaired scotopic vision, myopia, hyperopia, nystagmus and reduced visual acuity. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family. SLRP class IV subfamily.
Contains 11 LRR (leucine-rich) repeats.
Contains 1 LRRCT domain.
Contains 1 LRRNT domain. -

Anti-Nyctalopin antibody (ab128852) at 1 µg/ml + Mouse Retina Tissue Lysate at 10 µg
Secondary
Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG H&L (HRP) (ab97051) at 1/10000 dilution
Developed using the ECL technique.
Performed under reducing conditions.
Predicted band size: 52 kDa
Observed band size: 52 kDa
Additional bands at: 37 kDa, 62 kDa. We are unsure as to the identity of these extra bands.
Exposure time: 8 minutes
This blot was produced using a 4-12% Bis-tris gel under the MOPS buffer system. The gel was run at 200V for 50 minutes before being transferred onto a Nitrocellulose membrane at 30V for 70 minutes. The membrane was then blocked for an hour using 5% Bovine Serum Albumin before being incubated with ab128852 overnight at 4°C. Antibody binding was detected using an anti-rabbit antibody conjugated to HRP, and visualised using ECL development solution.
