Our RabMAb® technology is a patented hybridoma-based technology for making rabbit monoclonal antibodies. For details on our patents, please refer to RabMAb® patents.
The Life Science industry has been in the grips of a reproducibility crisis for a number of years. Abcam is leading the way in addressing the problem with our range of recombinant monoclonal antibodies and knockout edited cell lines for gold-standard validation.
One factor contributing to the crisis is the use of antibodies that are not suitable. This can lead to misleading results and the use of incorrect data informing project assumptions and direction. To help address this challenge, we have introduced an application and species grid on our primary antibody datasheets to make it easy to simplify identification of the right antibody for your needs.

All lanes : Anti-galectin 9/Gal-9 antibody [EPR19182] (ab184331) at 1/2000 dilution
Lane 1 : Mouse liver lysate
Lane 2 : Mouse thymus lysate
Lane 3 : Mouse spleen lysate
Lane 4 : NIH/3T3 (Mouse embryonic fibroblast cell line) whole cell lysate
Lane 5 : Mouse brain lysate
Lysates/proteins at 20 µg per lane.
Secondary
All lanes : Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG H&L (HRP) (ab97051) at 1/100000 dilution
Predicted band size: 40 kDa
Observed band size: 36 kDa why is the actual band size different from the predicted?Blocking/Dilution buffer: 5% NFDM/TBST.
Exposure times: Lane 1, 2 and 3: 15 seconds; Lane 4 and 5: 3 minutes.
galectin 9 / Gal-9 was not detected in mouse brain under our testing conditions, but mouse brain should have low expression of galectin 9 / Gal-9 according to the literature (PMID: 9038233). The molecular weight observed is consistent with what has been described in the literature (PMID: 9038233).
