Function
Integrin alpha-L/beta-2 is a receptor for ICAM1, ICAM2, ICAM3 and ICAM4. It is involved in a variety of immune phenomena including leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction, cytotoxic T-cell mediated killing, and antibody dependent killing by granulocytes and monocytes. -
Tissue specificity
Leukocytes. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the integrin alpha chain family.
Contains 7 FG-GAP repeats.
Contains 1 VWFA domain. -
Domain
The integrin I-domain (insert) is a VWFA domain. Integrins with I-domains do not undergo protease cleavage. -
Cellular localization
Membrane. - Information by UniProt

All lanes : Anti-CD11a antibody (ab78058) at 1 µg/ml
Lane 1 : Human thymus tissue lysate - total protein (ab30146)
Lane 2 : Human spleen tissue lysate - total protein (ab29699)
Lysates/proteins at 10 µg per lane.
Secondary
All lanes : Goat polyclonal to Rabbit IgG - H&L - Pre-Adsorbed (HRP) at 1/3000 dilution
Developed using the ECL technique.
Performed under reducing conditions.
Predicted band size: 129 kDa
Observed band size: 161 kDa why is the actual band size different from the predicted?
Additional bands at: 28 kDa, 46 kDa. We are unsure as to the identity of these extra bands.
Exposure time: 20 minutes
CD11A contains an exstensive number of potential glycosylation sites (SwissProt) which may explain its migration at a higher molecular weight (161 kDa) than predicted (129 kDa). -
IHC image of CD11a staining in Human Tonsil formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section, performed on a Leica BondTM system using the standard protocol F. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH6, epitope retrieval solution 1) for 20 mins. The section was then incubated with ab78058, 5µg/ml, for 15 mins at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
