Product overview
Abcam’s IL-8 Feline ELISA Kit (ab193688) is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of feline IL-8 in serum, plasma (feline IL8 concentration is pretty low in normal plasma, it may not be detected in this assay) and cell culture supernatant.
This assay employs an antibody specific for feline IL-8 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and the immobilized antibody captures IL-8 present in the samples. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-feline IL8 antibody is added. After washing away any unbound biotinylated antibody, an HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. After incubation, the wells are again washed, followed by the addition of a TMB substrate solution to the wells. Color will develop in proportion to the amount of IL-8 bound in each well. Addition of the Stop Solution will change the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Relevance
IL-8 is a chemotactic factor that attracts neutrophils, basophils, and T-cells, but not monocytes. It is also involved in neutrophil activation. It is released from several cell types in response to an inflammatory stimulus. IL-8(6-77) has a 5-10-fold higher activity on neutrophil activation, IL-8(5-77) has increased activity on neutrophil activation and IL-8(7-77) has a higher affinity to receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2 as compared to IL-8(1-77), respectively. -
