Product overview
The ALT Assay Kit (384 well, Colorimetric/Fluorometric) (ab241035) provides a rapid, sensitive and reliable test, suitable for high throughput screening of ALT activity in various biological samples.
The 384-well format allows for the screening of a large number of samples on a single high-density microplate. The kit can be run in either colorimetric or fluorometric detection mode and can detect a minimum of 0.25 to 1.25 mU of ALT activity per well, using a minimal sample volume as low as 0.5 μL.

Function
Catalyzes the reversible transamination between alanine and 2-oxoglutarate to form pyruvate and glutamate. Participates in cellular nitrogen metabolism and also in liver gluconeogenesis starting with precursors transported from skeletal muscles. -
Tissue specificity
Liver, kidney, heart, and skeletal muscles. Expressed at moderate levels in the adipose tissue. -
Pathway
Amino-acid degradation; L-alanine degradation via transaminase pathway; pyruvate from L-alanine: step 1/1. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the class-I pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent aminotransferase family. Alanine aminotransferase subfamily. -
Cellular localization
Cytoplasm. - Information by UniProt
